In the next election ignore everything EXCEPT...

No matter who runs; no matter what their party, there is only one thing you should look for when you listen to the politicians (and DO listen - don't vote in ignorance).

Listen to what they are really NOT saying. You will notice, as I did that almost all politicians will answer your concerns with blanket non-answers like, "If elected I will fix that," or maybe, "As your president I will make sure that this happens."

Those are glib non-replies without any substance. LOOK FOR SUBSTANCE.

Here is an example:

Moderator asks the candidates how they would deal with illegal immigration.

Candidate A say, "I would put together a bipartisan committee to come up with solutions that reform our immigration policies and put an end to the problem once and for all. I would do so in a fair and just manner."

Candidate B says, "First, I would have my AG and the DOJ enforce current laws that punish employers for hiring illegals. If they cannot work, they will self deport. To that end I would have E-Verify perfected and be more efficient, and require employers use it. Simultaneously I would begin to seal the most porous portions of the border and use every method at our disposal to make it nearly impossible for illegals to enter. Then I would offer illegals the opportunity to get a renewable guest worker card provided they have no criminal record and can find an employer who would hire them as a legal guest worker. The guest worker card would be voided if the individual is not gainfully employed for 90 days. All illegals who aspire to be citizens will be given the opportunity to apply provided they apply from their native country, and provided they learn English and assimilate into American culture. If they do that, we would expedite their application and provide them with a guest worker card in the interim."

As you can see, Candidate A offers platitudes and vague proimises that have no substance, while Candidate B offers real and specific solutions.

We should ignore Candidate A, regardless of party affiliation, and support Candidate B PROVIDED his or her solutions seem equitable to us. But at least you know he/she HAS solutions, and not just hype. And that is what you should be listening for. Turn a deaf ear to empty hype, and listen closely to those who offer actual, SPECIFIC solutions.
